In some cases, you may need to create a new lease for a property even though an existing lease is still active. This can happen for several reasons, such as:
- A new tenant is scheduled to move in before the current lease officially ends (early move-in or transition period)
- A lease renewal is being created while the current lease is still active for record-keeping purposes
- A tenant is being replaced, and there is a short overlap during move-out and move-in coordination
- A sublease or assignment is being set up while the original lease remains active in the system
- Administrative adjustments require a new lease record before the previous one is closed
By default, the system prevents multiple active leases for the same property. However, you can allow this by enabling the “Allow Overlapping Leases” setting.
How to turn on “Allow Overlapping Leases”?
- Click your profile avatar in the upper-right corner and select Settings
- Go to Account Settings
- In the Lease Defaults section, click Show
- Set Allow Overlapping Leases to Yes
- Click Update to save your changes
